Wakespeed WS500 Advanced Alternator Regulator

Much easier to configure and monitor

I installed last year a wakespeed 500 together with a Vitron Cerbo GX on my 24 Volt system, which includes solar cells regulated by Victron Smart solar MPPT. Consumption is measured by Victron Smart shunt. It all works great and leave the batteries (LiFe) full and the solar cells do not any longer prevent the generator from charging. I am now doing the same with my 12 Volt system.

I must just comment on the level of support I have received since buying the WS500 4 years ago. Well in truth it’s been simply amazing as I am not a professional I have had to ask many basic questions and the patience and simple explanations I have received have seen me through some complex processes that I could not have completed had I not received such guidance. I have also received guidance as to what I did need contrary to what I thought I might need. I have nothing but good to say as many companies just cut and run once they have received your money but OGM walks with you until you reach your objective.

I really appreciate the advice on getting the right aux alternator regulator kit -- and at a great price. Rick and team were super helpful and quick to respond to my questions. This stuff is hard to figure out and they made it easy.

the wakespeed alt voltage regulator is a special component and priced right at ogm probably cheaper than other sources as i got the kit with shunt. correct me if i am wrong but i think ogm wrote their own software program for laptop use that codes the regulator as well as datalogs and has a much nicer interface than what i see wakespeed advertising. this software is an add on item that was part of my kit by promotion. my application is basically a land yacht (rv) and the goal is to have a diversified electrical generation system and as best i can tell now, the wakespeed is a key puzzle piece and integrates so well with my highoutput alternator. i wish i had a watercooled alternator as i read someone that did was able to basically achieve max output almost all the time, but having an aircooled unit the wakespeed will protect it. based of initial testing, i deem it feasible to to run 1 rooftop ac, basic chassis loads, and probably a tv with out running the generator by having a high output alternator with wakespeed with a good sized battery bank, rooftop solar, and integrated automatic generator start as a backup. that is under ideal conditions, and running the alternator at high loads produces a lot of heat so more testing will be done as well as working on piping fresh air to the alt. honorable mention to Rick for quality customer service, will work on my bms next.

The setup and installation instructions are of the highest level.
Customer service was amazing; Rick was quick to help out when i inadvertently ordered the wrong harness and gave me a 100% refund.

A lot of this sort of tech is a learning process and without quality support from the vender it becomes a google sleuthing nightmare. Rick and the rest of the team helped me through the process of setting up my BMS and made it a much better and less trying experience. couldn't recommend these guys enough.

This is a company that takes ownership of their customer service. Rick was quick to help me get what I needed for a WS500 setup for my coach and got my order processed quickly.

After receiving the order (with a missing temp sensor that was supposed to be included with he wiring harness) Rick got a replacement shipped out immediately at no cost.

Then I found that there wasn't a terminator included with the Wakespeed/Victron crossover cable, Rick didn't hesitate to get it shipped out to me.

These issues weren't OGSS's issues, but caused by Wakespeed, but instead of telling me to contact Wakespeed he just took care of the issue.

That's how you do customer service. I wish everyone would do the same.

I installed lithium batteries in my catamaran and had to find a solutions to regulate the main engine alterntors.

Recently purchased wakespeed alternator and was impressed with the prompt service and order fulfillment. The unit was well packaged and using USPS for delivery here in Western Canada saved me the typical huge customs brokerage fees that ups and fedex charge.

Trying to get an SMA SI to talk with a BMS has been a Challenge. Rick was a great help in getting me there.

I am on a cruising boat currently in Aruba, and hoped to upgrade our charging system here due to favourable customs duties on imports. My purchase went awry when Defender informed me they couldn't deliver the alternator I ordered. I couldn't find a replacement at this time so I had to cancel my order for a WS500 from Off Grid (I had placed the order right after ordering the alternator). Rick was very helpful in trying to find another source for the alternator, and providing information on what I would need to install it. When the only option turned out to be a size up in amperage (that I couldn't use) and $$$ I balked. Rick refunded my money without hesitation. I will eventually get a WS500 from Off Grid, when Balmar restocks and when I know where I will be in a months time.

His knowledge and patience helping a novice install and commission a Wake Speed WS500 after a lightening strike wiped out the old charging system (alternators, Balmars, wiring the lot) has been refreshing in this day and age.
I am very grateful to him (especially during this Covid-19 shutdown)and the other technicians from offgridsoftwaresolutions for helping me problem solve a charging issue caused by a declined magnetic core.
A simple fix if you know what you are doing but I clearly don’t so very frustrating for him but thank you from me.

I've used the WS500 Configuration tool to setup my dual WS-500 regulators and to tune and monitor things the first few months. I love being able to see the alternator temperature along with the output all on a graph. This software also helps a ton in configuring the WS-500 which has a wealth of options, but can be overwhelming to configure at the command line.
