  On a LiFePO4 battery system that incorporates a Cerbo GX, Wakespeed WS-500 and the REC-BMS which Alternate CAN / BMS protocol are people using?

  Based upon this from the manual, I think that I should use option "3."

  Yes, correct. 

  Use protocoll 2 or 3, depending on your preference. 

  Personally I have used 3, with same setup as you.
