WS500 P Harness how to identify temp sensor vs negative

  • I accidently cut the negative and the two alternator temp sensor wires on my harness (WS500 P). All three are black. How can I identify which is which?

Given Wakespeed does not apriori provide pin assignments.

  • I was able to dig this up.  Hope it helps.

  • Thank Rick. Really appreciate, put me on some track. I found something different (my WS500 is from 2021):

    Positive red - Pin 1
    Field blue - Pin 3
    Negative black - Pin 5
Alt Temp Sensor black - Pins 20 and 21

I guess it could depend on how one numbers the pins. For the Negative, I deduced that the Alt Temp Sensor must be together (thus pins 20/21), but I cannot be sure. What puzzles me is the WS500 comes on even with the Negative disconnected. I would guess in this case it takes its negative from the battery voltage sensor, but if I disconnect that, it still comes on. The green led first indicates IDLE at first, but after a few seconds it goes into a fast (green) blinking (but sligtly slower than 1/4s flash/delay - so I am not sure if that would be the RAMP TO BULK mode). It makes a small "hummm" sound. Hope this is normal, as I cannot test with turning on the engine right now.

Wakespeed support said "they don't give it to us", and suggested I just try to connect the blacks in turn until the WS500 comes on. That method does not really work as the WS500 turns on even with the negative disconnected. They also suggested that I purchase a new harness. Not very supportive.

Thanks so much for the help you brought.

    Cheers.
