Hi Everyone,
I'm wondering if I've managed to cook the field output on my Wakespeed in the worst possible way. I have a P-Type alternator, and the P-Type harness. At my alternator, the red Alt + is connected to the positive terminal on the alternator, the black negative is connected to the negative side of the brush box on my alternator (which is shorted to chassis and my negative bus) and the blue/purple field wire is connected to the field connector.
The problem I have is that the alternator simply runs flat out 100% whenever the wakespeed is powered on. It even did this when my system went into alarm. I've got the WS500 set for a minimum duty cycle of 1%.
I pulled the field connecton and checked it with an oscilloscope, and when the WS500 is powered on, all I see is a solid +12.6V (a couple of diode drops from the system voltage of about 13.3v) and when the wakespeed is powered off, it drops to about 9V. Interestingly, when powered off, the 9V goes away when I disconnect the ALT+, however when powered on, even with ALT+ disconnected it still drives the field to 100%.
I checked for wiring faults in the harness with the whole thing disconnected from my WS500 and it looks good.
All the other functionality, including alternator temperature checking, CANBUS communications with my victron setup, tachometer all work as expected. It just drives my alternator to 100% all the time.
I preveriously had exactly the same unit working beautifully with my old alternator/engine, so it was good until we went in for the repower.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
