BMS 1A NEWBIE WITH AN ISSUE

  • Hello,

I have a REC-BMS attached to a Winston Bty with a Victron set up.  The system came with a new to me yacht. I cannot get the BMS to function.

I have the wifi module and having watched the you tubes on Updates etc I have managed to get connectivity to the wifi but when I follow up with trying to get the firmware down load i seem to be getting different files to the ones on the latest tutoroals.

    So help please?

Q1.   What should I be downloading, from where? I have a 1A-xxxx system.

Q2.  Any links to good tutorials I should study.

Q3.  Any advice on getting myself going.

  • There are 2 version of firmware.

See the text doc, when you downloaded the new firmware.

    https://rec-bms-na.com/

You need xx.x.1 or XX.x.2 depend on your installation, see same worddoc.

You need to see or you have a one relay system, or a 2 relay system.

The builder from the system has different possibilities how to setup.

The REC has 4 output, you need to check the system how it is setup.

If there are no diagrams, you need to follow the cables, and I suggest to make a diagram yourself.

Q2 and Q3, download the manual.

BMS's are a bit technical, you need to have a bit off tech understanding to setup yourself.

See tutorials on REC official website and on the REC/US website.

If you have any questions, please post them here.

    Edit:

Up to firmware 2.92, there are 2 versions.

Firmware 2.94 is new, one version for both.

See txt doc at the downloaded file.

  • thank you.  i have update to |SW 2.94 HW2.1

i can see the BM|S and I have Error "Internal Memory Problems Detected" The SD card is hardly used so there must be another memory?

    I have a Victron Smart shunt 1000A on a 100Ah LiFePO4 bty.

The SOC is not correct and does not change when charging.

Can I clear the memory fault!

  • some how the error has cleared and I have now manually set the SOC to the shunt reading.

I now need to understand how I can get the Victron smart shunt to be seen.  Currently there is no option for a 1000A /50mv shunt, there is the option to customise but not sure how that is done.

I would have thought the Smart shunt would have been in the dropdown selection.

  • @Mark suggestion also have the WiFi unit with newest firmware.

Sometimes good to start with a new formatted SD card in the WiFi unit.

The shunt value is just a setting, under "setting" tab. Use "custom", see manual how to calculate the correct value, to type in there.

  • Hi, congratulations on your new boat!

To use the Victron smart shunt, you need to have the shunt wires connected across the shunt and treat it as a manual shunt.  You can not rely on the CANBus network for this function as it is a high priority parameter that needs very fast response time.

For a 1,000A shunt the setting will be half of a 500A or 0.009765625
