Lost Yanmar panel and kill switch

  • Hello, I lost any power to my  Yanmar type B panel and kill switch in it. The regulator excite wire is not hooked up but it would seem it powers my yanmar panel and switch. Should I be hooking my old excite wire to the alt pos? cory

  • The ignition switch power can be used to connect to the  ignition input as it only draws a few milli-amps, (wire #1 on your WS500) but will not have power to drive the field circuit.  This power comes from the Alternator Plus wire #6.  If your Yanmar panel is dead, I would suspect that your fuse is blown and as I recall it is right on the back of your Yanmar panel.  Just remove the 6 screws, flip it over and look for the fuse holder in the wiring harness.

  • Thanks for the reply Rick, it would seem that I have power at the panel, I am now concerned with the ground somewhere. Not sure if it has anything do do with wire #5 not being on the back of the alternator, it is just connected to the old ground coming from the starter. The ws500 seems to work ok, builds field to 100% but never goes above 0 amps for alternator output, but batteries are fully charged. Let the sleuthing begin.

Really struggling here with getting the system to charge. WS500 says bulk but never raises above 0 or -1 amps. Any ideas?
