Wakespeed on gx touch screen

  • Hi, anyone knows if wakespeed regulator is going to show up on victron gx screen?

  • following... :) I have the gx I haven\'t \"seen\" anything. But 100% that I have also not set it up for that. Would be cool if it did... :)

  • The project seemed to get some traction last spring but it has been quiet for a few months now. Here is a link to the project on github for those interested https://github.com/victronenergy/venus/issues/779

  • Seems like we are very close now..!

  • Yes, it is in alpha/beta testing now!

  • Version 2.5.0 (beta) is released now. (Not had the chance to test it myself yet). You will need Venus OS V2.90-10 also.   http://wakespeed.com/technical.html

  • Tested out V2.5 Beta and seems to be working just fine. I am running BMS controlled charging with REC A-BMS.   Now Victron just needs to add more widgets to the VRM portal from WS500. Like State, RPM and Field%. This will make it more easy to diagnose and adjust the setup.

  • I\'d love to see Victron have a main page update that will show a charge source from the WS500. However my guess is to get an accurate reading, you\'ll still need to install a shunt on the wire from the alternator to get an accurate reading.

  • OK - I have upgraded my WS500 to 2.5.0 & my Cerbo GX to 2.90-14 I cant see any Wakespeed info ? I assume it should show up in the Device list. The Bus is working fine between GX, ABMS & WS500. Anybody else tried this ... ? addendum .. just gone thru github ... and seen this \'Connect the Wakespeed WS500 to the VE.can port, not the VE.bms port\' Is this still the case ?... I am on the BMS-Can bus at 500K ?

  • In my experience all units have to be on 250 Kbps. At 500 Kbps the Cerbo will not \"see\" the WS500.   Meaning you also have to use VE-CAN ports, as BMS CAN port is 500 Kbps only.

My Cerbo acts as a CAN hub for the WS500 and the ABMS (they connect individually to the Cerbo) - seems to work just fine. The Cerbo (Venus) also \"sees\" the REC BMS on the BMS CAN bus ...  shows in the Device list with associated parameters. Also instructions from REC manual : \"Connect BMS and GX device with CAN cable. Use BMS-Can port with Cerbo GX\" I guess this is a question for Victron ...

  • I have a question - my ws500 is hooked up to my cerbo, I can see it in the device list. Its controlled by the REC BMS using DVCC and seems to work great, the only issue is that I can\'t seem to see the alternator voltage or the current on the cerbo. The line where it should be just has the first value (battery voltage), the other two spots are blank. Im using a seperate shunt inline with the alternator+ to measure current. Is this usual in DVCC mode or am I missing a setting?

I tried this, and Cerbo sees the WS500 and ABMS, but the WS500 would not see the ABMS. Are you sure your WS500 is in Sync Mode?

Its the same here, but I have the shunt at battery, not alternator. My thought was it is related to this setting, should be set to 0 in your case.   Shunt At Bat?: Is the shunt connected to the Battery? Used during RBM mode to know if we are seeing alternator or battery current. 0=no, 1=yes(default)

That was a great guess, and indeed a setting I needed to change (and hadn\'t) - didn\'t fix my issue though, still getting the lack of readout on current/alt voltage. The fact that it seems to still work makes me wonder if its a cerbo gx display problem rather than a CAN issue

Hi Trond - thanks for your help ... Yes all (seems to be ) working ok. I have the orange sync light on the WS500, No errors and the Alt is receiving current control from somewhere. Yesterday we motored for a while and the high SOC management was more responsive and better suited with the new firmware. Also after changing the ABMS settings - no HVC trips :-) I assume you have the ABMS and WS500 all connected to the same BMS-CAN bus and the ABMS and WS500 set to CAN 500 kbs ?? I know (sure i read somewhere) the 2 CAN bus\'s are isolated on the CERBO. So there is no cross comms.

  • I use currently the VE-CAN port only, set to 250 kbps. A-BMS->Cerbo->WS500->NMEA2000 to the boat. This works perfect.  An bonus with this is sending Engine RPM data and A-BMS status to NMEA2000.   And yes the two CAN bus interfaces on the Cerbo are different ports. I will try to move the A-BMS over to BMS-CAN 500kbps one day and try again.

after finally getting my Wifi module comms back (downgraded firmware) i have moved all over to CAN at 250K. Can now see the WS500 on my Cerbo :-)  .... nice one Wakespeed ! I have a Bluesea shunt (and gauge) on the alternator output .... but i was advised to connect the WS500 shunt wires to the the ABMS shunt (for stability?).... Wonder if i should move them over to the alt shunt ? Anyone done this ?? Are there any negative implications ?

  • Hi, did you move the current sensor to the alt shunt?

How are you getting data to N2K? I am using ABMS, WS500, and VE.can to N2K Adapter, but there are only 2 VE.CAN ports, so the N2K got the boot in favor of the WS500.  I tried to plug the ABMS into the WS500 thinking \"its a bus, right?\" but it would not show up.  Also the WS500 disappears when the engine is powered down (ignition wire loses +12v), so it is not suited anyway. Previously I had the ABMS on BMS-CAN and the N2K on VE.Can and was able to received ABMS stats on N2k, it would be nice if the WS500 worked on BMS-CAN.  I have not seen how to set the WS500 to 500kbps, though.
